'HELPPPP!'

We’re too hard on the Bible folks - the disciples - Peter - Thomas - the prophets - the Old Testament characters - in particular, the children of Israel

They escape the fatal grasp of their Egypt oppressors, watching the mighty Red Sea open up in front of them.  They experience meat and bread falling from heaven every morning, enough for every day, double portions on the weekends, the presence of God in a cloud and fire, the 10 Commandments coming down from Mt. Sinai - a generation who witnessed the most powerful acts of God anyone had ever seen.

And still they go rogue.  The prove themselves unfaithful to a faithful God.  Incredible.  Unthinkable.

Or is it?  Actually, it’s kind of like being us.

Hasn’t God brought you through hell and high water only at some point to have you ignore Him - forget Him - put Him second / third / fourth - turn your back on Him?

With the children of Israel plodding their way through the wilderness becoming experts at disobeying God, He finally gives them permission to spend a couple more decades out in the hot, dry landscape.

Finally they cross the rushing Jordan River to enter a brand new territory they would call home - the Promised Land - where they face the greatest tests they’ve ever known.

And so will you and I.  We will ultimately face something that shakes us to our core - something that will cause us to fall to our knees and lift our faces to the sky in search of God.

‘God, I need You.’

In the moment you’ll know how to pray - you’ll know what to say.  Even if you can’t think of any multi-syllabic words, you won’t need them.  You’ll just need one word:  “HELPPPP!

Shout it loud or whisper it softly, but say it.  “HELPPPP!”

And God is there.
