S.O.A.P.

This year at Journey we are employing S.O.A.P. as a discipleship practice to get closer to Jesus and to know Him more.

What you’ll need:

A Bible

A Journal

A Pen

Some quiet time

A Plan

We’ll provide monthly Bible reading guides (the Plan) for your convenience this year. Following the plan will take you through the major portions of the Bible by the end of 2019.

As you read using the S.O.A.P. method, here’s what you need to know …

S is for Scripture

Find a quiet moment and space and take time to read and allow God to speak to you.

O is for Observation

What struck you and caught your attention as you read?  What is God saying to you in the verse or passage?  Ask the Holy Spirit to give you greater understanding.  Write down (journal) your observations.  If you write them, you’ll be far less likely to forget them later.

A is for Application

Personalize it.  Ask yourself how what you’ve read can be applied to your life today.

Is there a promise there to claim?

Is there an encouragement or correction for a particular area of your life?

Write down how that applies to you.

P is for Prayer

Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so we talk to God and then we listen to what God has to say.

This year try something different. The S.O.A.P.  method of Bible reading, prayer and journaling will bear great fruit in you. The work of God is cumulative in your life.  You can’t see the progress in one day or one week - but if you’ll stick with it in 2019, by 2020 you won’t recognize yourself.

“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”  (Isaiah 40:31)

Looking forward to a great 2019.

And be blessed.
