IT IS I

Remember that terrible, no good, awful experience you walked through that time?  It was one of the worst experiences of your life.

But you look back on it now and view it as something that shaped you into the person you are today.

Remember?

Jesus does that kind of good work inside you - but sometimes He does it through difficulty or challenge.

In the storm on the boat on the Sea of Galilee when the disciples were ready to throw in the towel, Jesus appears walking on the Sea and says:  “Don’t be afraid … it is I.”

Take that statement of Jesus and engrave it on your heart.  Bind it on your soul.  Weave it into the crevices of your spirit.  Whatever your storm, He’s the Peace-Speaker.  Whatever your trial, He’s the Way-Maker.  Whatever the disappointment, He’s the Promise-Keeper.  Whatever the need, He’s the Solution.

We keep our eyes fixed on Him and we take another step His direction.  And when the water gets up to our eyeballs, we know we aren’t going under.  He’s too faithful for that.  Going down isn’t going under.  Jesus doesn’t send you out into the storm for you to be swept away.

There’s a song we used to sing in church when I was a kid titled “Love Lifted Me.”  It works well here:

‘I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,

Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more.

But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry,

From the waters lifted me, now safe am I

Love lifted me, love lifted me,

When nothing else could help, love lifted me.’

Jesus says:  ‘It is I.’

Count on it.
